Core Competencies

In French 10, we did a literary circle discussion on a book that we read in small groups. This was a great demonstration of communication as it pushed me to explain/ recount and reflect and connect and engage with others. In this activity we all had to read one of the books that our teacher picked out for us and had to read them and then join in a circle and discuss. We then presented some questions that we had formulated and communicated our personal links with the story. Sometimes we had to create ideas on the spot as we would listen to other people’s thoughts/comments and make contrasting statements or state our opinions. This activity was also a great demonstration of my ability to acquire, interpret and present information that I had acquired from reading these books. These discussions would last 15 minutes while everyone needed to contribute to the discussion. In all, this has helped me improve my communication skills and develop more confidence with speaking in groups. 

I have grown the most in creative thinking. Before it was difficult for me to develop ideas from a creative standpoint rather than focusing on factual evidence. I am more of a person who like one straight answer rather than multiple possibilities for one question. But now I have developed better creative thinking skills and am now able to consider and develop multiple creative ideas, especially in English 10. We have been reading many short stories with discussion questions afterwards with which there are multiple different answers based on personal interpretation of the stories. I believe that that activity has helped me grow my creative thinking skills. 

My goals are trying to stop my procrastination and trying harder in my classes. I am definitely a procrastinator, which is something I am trying to work on. My plan to try and end my bad habit is to try and start on all my work the minute I get home and to diminish any distractions around me. The hope is that I will become more efficient in completing my work and be able to get more done. I also want to try harder in my classes. I do admit that I have some overdue assignments at times, and I want to get better at trying to knock them off before they become overdue. This also has to do with my procrastination. I will use personal awareness and responsibility to achieve these goals, specifically self-regulation and determination.
