One core competency I have improved/focused on is Critical Thinking. I have demonstrated significant growth in Math and Science compared to last year. Looking back at my midterm report card, it was said that I made many “connections” on Math. For example, on unit tests, my biggest struggle can be those application word problems. Some of them are worded in a confusing way or too lengthy. This represents the problem of my Critical Thinking process. So, as a solution, I would normally do different things such as doing extra problems online or using Mrs. Dragan’s suggestions. For example, during the Rational Expressions/Equations unit, we had three different types of word problems: They were rate problems, distance speed time, and two equations. Using the charts my teacher gave me, it made the start of the word problem easier, making it more convenient for me to decipher it. Since she also anticipated the word problems on the test, I found practice sheets online (after textbook since most problems aren’t related to the textbook).

Core Competencies
Communication: I have demonstrated a large growth of communication throughout the school year. For example, in Social Studies, we have done some discussions in class such as the big ideas of World War I and World War II. Sometimes, I must think about some big ideas on the reasons. What I do is that I use those big ideas as the themes of the wars, and I share unique reasons. I have also demonstrated collaboration throughout the school year. In group projects, such as the YPI project I’m doing right now in careers, I can participate and contribute on the project. I don’t do very minimal work such as adding a few words or changing the PowerPoint slides order. What I plan is that every person in the group does a certain part of the work. For a future goal, I will engage myself more in group talks by going deeper about the theme of those wars. And I would collaborate better in the future by formulating a specific plan.
