Core Competencies

Communication: I have demonstrated a large growth of communication throughout the school year. For example, in Social Studies, we have done some discussions in class such as the big ideas of World War I and World War II. Sometimes, I must think about some big ideas on the reasons. What I do is that I use those big ideas as the themes of the wars, and I share unique reasons. I have also demonstrated collaboration throughout the school year. In group projects, such as the YPI project I’m doing right now in careers, I can participate and contribute on the project. I don’t do very minimal work such as adding a few words or changing the PowerPoint slides order. What I plan is that every person in the group does a certain part of the work. For a future goal, I will engage myself more in group talks by going deeper about the theme of those wars. And I would collaborate better in the future by formulating a specific plan.

Earthquakes and how they are dangerous in our world.

What is the overall topic and the goal of your project?

The overall topic of my project describes how serious earthquakes are in our world. The goal of the project is that the readers can understand the impact of earthquakes in our world. Not just they must understand the magnitude, but also must understand the deaths because of how serious the earthquakes are.

What sites did you use to collect your data and create the infographic and what did you learn about it?

The 3 sites (listed on the bottom of my infographic) were Ocean Networks, Al Jazeera news, and Math and You. After using those sites, I understood that earthquakes in our world are serious. According to my data, their magnitude are from 6-8 which is very serious and can cause many impacts like destroyed communities. Also, I used types of data that works best for the infographic.

How has the process of utilizing these sites impacted your understanding of how technology can change (or help) the world?

Those sites impacted my understanding. When I first heard about earthquakes, I didn’t know much. After doing a project on a news article, I chose the Turkey-Syria earthquake. After that project, I learned that not just the magnitude that affected the countries, but it destroyed plenty of things like houses and buildings and caused many deaths. Also the other sites impacted my understanding because of the magnitude level. I learned that higher the magnitude, the more serious the earthquake is.

Piano as my Passion

My passion that I love the most is playing piano. I started piano since I was in the 1st grade. Well, as you know, I started with the basics. I felt frustrated at first since it was so hard. Over time, my fingers started to get used to get used on the keys. Every 6 months, I get a concert. The good news is that they’re fun and that I can finally dress formally. The bad news is that it’s far from Coquitlam. Normally, my concerts are at West Vancouver, Vancouver, or Burnaby. During concerts, there is a certain sequence when people perform onstage with a grand piano. The sequence is based on your piano level. For example, if you’re a beginner, you get to be the first ones to play. If you’re intermediate like level 5, you get to be in the middle to perform. If you’re advanced like level 9 or 10, you get to be the last ones. Since I’m level 10, I have to play as the last ones. At least I have an advantage since I can think about my piece before I perform. When I’m onstage, I get stage fright. But I remember not to look at the audience. It’s not only concerts, but I have to take exams. I already done two exams: One for level 5 and one for level 8. To pass an exam, the person must get at least 60 marks. Exams are really hard. I have to play my pieces well and do sight reading.

Break the Fake – Researchers discover two new minerals on meteorite grounded in Somalia.

  1.  Here is a Twitter Post that I’ve found. I am going to check if there are actually 2 new minerals grounded in Somalia.

2. First, I went to the source “Science” but it doesn’t have a blue check mark beside its name.

3. Second, I copied the image address for the photo and went to tineye.com and pasted the image address. There are 52 search results, so this article is likely to be real. Of all the 52 results that I’ve checked they are all found on Nov 29 2022, so therefore they are all the oldest.

4. Third, I did a Google Search for the article and I clicked the news section. It showed 1 result which has the website “The Guardian.”

This website is real because on the bottom of the story, it has a “Contact us” area which are the 4 social media buttons that you can contact them.

5. I also did a search on Snopes.com but it doesn’t contain the info I searched up.

6. Finally, I double-checked other reliable sources for this Twitter post. In conclusion, this post is real.

My grandparents’ garden

What about the environment will discourage you from waking up every day to attend work?

There are 2 things that’ll discourage me if I were to work at my garden. The first is that when I use the fertilizer, it smells very bad and the smell stops in 30 minutes. The second thing is that when I mow the lawn, it’s slow because it’s heavy to push and it stops after every 30 seconds, so I must pull the string very hard to make the lawn mower work again.

What do you hear, see, smell and feel in the work environment on Nov 2nd?

At the garden, I hear a loud roaring sound which is my mower and I hear a sloshing sound which comes from the hose my grandparents use to water their plants. I see an L-shaped planting area with dirt and crops (fruits and vegetables), a grape vine and a pear tree. I also see a shed which has my mower and gardening equipment (gloves, tools). I smell fruit and vegetables that are about to ripen up. I also smell the fertilizer which isn’t that good. At the garden, I feel happy because once the fruits and vegetables are ripe, they’re good to eat because I like fruits and vegetables.  I normally feel tired after mowing the lawn because it takes 30 minutes and I need to pull the string hard which wastes my energy.

Some good tips when anyone comments on my blog

Thank you for reading my blog. If you want to comment them, please be polite and clear. I gave some tips on how to comment other people’s blog.

Think before you comment.

Thinking before commenting is good because it is important to consider the following elements:  your comment makes sense, is formal, is polite, is on topic and has no grammar/spelling/typos. If you got a grammar part wrong and you wrote another word that meant something else, it won’t make sense when the person who wrote the blog sees it. It is recommended that you write it on a piece of paper as a draft and then post as your final copy.

Be polite.

I suppose being polite is a good thing because if you have insults in the comment, the person who wrote the blog would be offended. Instead it is better to say some good things in the post like “This is helpful” or “It’s really interesting.”

Stay on topic.

Staying on topic is a good thing because when you post, you only talk about their blog. If you don’t stay on topic, it doesn’t make the meaning of your comment clear and it gets mixed up.

Be clear.

I believe that clear comments make people understand them better because if you make a very short comment, then nobody knows what you’re trying to say about my post. Be specific because I need to know if the comment is good or not.

Sample: Basketball tricks

“Hey Adam, thanks for sharing your tips. They help me a lot and they’re phenomenal. You’re good at posting some helpful tricks. But next time, can you please share some harder tricks.”
