Coast Salish Art Reflection

My awareness and understanding of Coast Salish Art in our community has changed a lot after making this Coast Salish art. Because before I didn’t know anything about Coast Salish art, such as why Coast Salish drawing and paints of animals had different shapes and what they meant. After doing this activity I now know how Coast Salish art is made and why it is so important to have all the elements in a picture like having all the shapes, having some blank spaces, what each shape means and where to place the shapes. Every shape has a unique meaning like the trigon which symbolizes strength, the circle which symbolizes unity and the crescent which symbolizes the moon. An example where this art is used is at Stanley Park, where the totem poles there have complex art design, unlike the picture I made. Connect Core Competency

The Core Competency I chose that connects well with my assignment is Communication. I chose it because I engaged with someone new and collaborated with him. In addition, I had to connect and plan how to do the project with him, to make sure we had it done before the break.

 

Learning from Digital Tool 

Something I learned from using Stream, that it is convenient and I can easily record videos. The benefits are it is easy to use, I can edit the videos, record easily and share by copying the code. Some challenges I had using Stream were it took some time to use it right, an had to take lots of tries to get it right.

 

Application in Other Courses

Take Our Kids To Work Day

For TOKTWD I accompanied my dad at his work place, which is actually in my house. Since my dad works from home. To start the day we had some breakfast, my dad usually starts at 8:00am or earlier (as required). He works 7-8 hours per day for 5 days. Then we went to his office space which felt like a workplace but at the same time like home. My dad told me about his company and tasks he performs daily, like replying to client emails, communication with team and resolving complaints from customers. He is the CEO of Medicy Wellness Services and the aim of the company is to provide a Health/Wellness platform and build a Web App for pharmacies, healthcare organizations and patients to improve  healthcare system.

 

He explained to me how the platform works, how to take client requirements and they ways to incorporate the same in the platform. After that I took a break because my dad had some thing to do so I ate some snacks and finished some homework.

After I came back, he showed me his work and then we also discussed on how to mange customers and clients, on how to write professional emails and positive communication.

Over all it was a good experience and my dad wasn’t that busy, the most important takeaway I took from the overview was how advancements in Technologies can impact the day to day lives of a common person.

 

 

 

  1. What did you hear, see, smell, and feel in the work environment on Nov. 6th? Use details

Since my father works from home, it was a quiet, clean and comfortable environment since its home.  

  1. What about the environment would motivate you to wake up every day to attend work? Why?

The thing that would motivate me to wake up every day is it’s relaxing, I don’t have to wake up early, don’t have to commute to a different place and because it is home. 

  1. What about the work environment would discourage you from waking up every day to attend work? Why?

The things that would discourage me from waking up to attend work would be its the same environment every day, there is not much interaction and it’s mostly online.   

  1. What is ONE thing you found interesting about your workplace visit? Why?

The one thing I found interesting is that you can do everything from one place since it’s mostly online and that you can take short breaks.
