Take your kids to work day

On TOKTWD, I went to my dad’s office where he works as a manager at Aardvark tents. I stayed in his office while my dad was managing the phone and setting up schedules for the workers. We also went to fill up some tanks for the propane heater for the tents. I found out that they actually do a lot of things such as setting up a place for movie filmers to stay, on the wall there were many autographs on celebrities thanking them for a place to stay warm at or cool at. Usually there are many festivals such as the rib feast that the company sets up tents for. This was a very eye opening experience and really showed me that work is hard and has to be very efficiant, managing this type of job is very hardwork and it shows that my dad really works diligently.

1. What did you hear, see, smell, and feel in the work environment on Nov. 6th? Use details.
I heard a lot of construction noises and discussions amongst the workers, when I was in the office, I
heard some typing and calls getting received. I saw an office and while I was outside with my dad there
was a lot of poles and materials to help set up the tents. I smelt fresh air outside and inside it almost
smelled like cigarettes from the coworkers. I felt like my dad does a lot of work; I feel that managing all
the things I learned about this job is very hard and that you would need a lot of problemsolving skills for
this job.

2. What about the environment would motivate you to wake up every day to attend work? Why?
I think that this environment would motivate me to wake up every day because of meeting new people,
working with my friends/coworkers and maybe getting the chance to see a movie star. Something that
would motivate me is that setting up one big tent can help many people with things such as the weather
(if it is bad) or a place for a break to rest or eat. My experience in the office was very cool and surprising
because there were many autographs of celebrities that my dad has set up tents for.

3. What about the work environment would discourage you from waking up every day to attend work?
Why?

Something that would discourage me from waking up every day to attend this job is the early starts and
paperwork. My father works as a manager, so he does a lot such as setting up the tents, making the
schedules, paperwork, early mornings, and making sure everything is good. I think that because waking
up in the morning is so hard for me this would very much discourage me from this job as I woke up this
morning at 6 am and drove to the office.

4. What is ONE thing you found interesting about your workplace visit? Why?

One thing I found interesting in this workplace is the amount of celebrities/movie stars that thanked
their help and gave them autographs. I think that this job could be dangerous as well because of the
heavy lifting so this job would be fit for someone who is very strong and knows how to manage their
time. In the photos I have taken, the wall of pictures was very interesting to me.
