Quarter 3 proud assignment

One of my favourite assignments that I completed this quarter was a map of the United Kingdom and the British Isles in social studies. We learned a lot about the United Kingdom in the 17th century and one of our tasks was to draw a map that included things like important cities, textile production, metallurgical production, dairy production,  and Hadrian’s wall. It also included the North Sea, the Irish Sea, the English Channel, the Celtic Sea and the Atlantic Ocean. I am proud of this project because I received a good mark on it and I put a lot of time and effort into it. I think it is easy and clear to read and I coloured it well. I am pleased with the final result and I also learned many new things while making it.

Break the fake- Prada blackface scandal

In this article, it talks about a blackface accusation that Prada was involved in, and it claims that the scandal lead to legal repercussions. Apparently Prada was getting backlash for racially insensitive products and advertising. According to the article, the scandal was turning into a bit of a legal problem.

Step 1: The source was a website called “The Cut”, which is apart of the New York magazine website. It seemed quite reliable, but I was not completely certain.

Step 2: To check if “The Cut” was a reliable and true source, I searched it on Wikipedia. It seems like a reliable and popular source, so I can most likely trust that the article is accurate. Since “The Cut” is apart of the New York magazine, I assumed that it is probably a credible source.

Step 3: I also used scopes.com to confirm that the story was true. I found out that there were multiple other articles about it, and they were confirmed to be true.

Step 4: Lastly, I wanted to check the other articles about this topic to see if they had similar information. I found several other websites and articles that discussed the same story. They seemed reliable, because there were many popular websites like the CNN, CTV, and ABC news with an article about Prada’s blackface scandal.

In conclusion, this article was true.

Quarter 2 proud assignment

An assignment that I am proud of from quarter 2 is my Slope stained glass project that I did in math. I enjoyed this project because I learned a lot about slopes and graphing lines and it helped prepare me for my unit test.

I had to draw 20 different lines on the graph with specific slopes and x/y-intercepts. Then I had to colour it. I put lots of work into it to make sure the lines were graphed correctly and drawn straight. I’m glad that I was able to do this assignment because it was good practice on how to graph lines and it helped me do well on my unit test. Math is a subject that is sometimes hard for me to enjoy because it can be very complicated, but this assignment helped me understand how to graph properly so I wouldn’t be worried for my unit test. I also did quite well on this assignment, so I was proud of myself.

information fluency- Miuccia Prada

Miuccia Prada is one of the boldest and most unique designers of all. She does the opposite of what the rest of the world is telling her to do, and she doesn’t have much fear of trying new things. Many people might think some of her designs look weird, but Miuccia Prada purposely wants to make her brand stand out and look different. I chose this topic because I’m interested in the fashion industry, and I think Miuccia Prada is one of the most creative designers. I think it’s quite fascinating that Miuccia Prada is able to try new things without any fear. I think a reason why Prada has become such a successful company is because of its individuality. Miuccia Prada is the granddaughter of the original founder, Mario Prada, a Milanese luggagemaker. Miuccia took over the family’s company and she changed/improved it. Material is very important to Prada, which makes the designs more interesting and unique. One question I had was why Miuccia Prada decided to be in the fashion industry? Miuccia Prada actually hated taking over the company at first. She says “I was a feminist in the ’60s and can you imagine? The worst I could have done was to be in fashion.” But she says eventually, she realized that so many clever people respect fashion so much. “It’s a way of investigating all the different universes: architecture, art, film.” Miuccia has shown the world that she doesn’t have to follow its rules or standards.

French 9 – portfolio de poésie

In French 9, one of our big assignments was writing many different poems based off of lots of different subjects. I have always enjoyed writing poems in English, but I had never done it in French until this assignment. It was a bit of a challenge because it was much harder for me to find words that rhymed in French and it was sometimes difficult to find the perfect words to describe things. I am very proud of how my poems turned out. They were really fun and interesting to write. I’m also proud of myself because I did very well on this assignment and I think I learned a lot of new things about poetry. I’m glad that I was able to write poetry in a different language, and it was overall an assignment that I enjoyed a lot.
