My Most Proud of Assignment in Quarter Three

For Quarter three One of my classes was math. One of my favourite assignments was the data analysis assignment. For this assignment I had to pick a topic and do research on it. I had to collect data on my topic and choose a way of displaying it. I chose to compare different vehicle brands like, Ford, Toyota, Honda, and Dodge with different vehicle categories like trucks, small cars, SUVs, and minivans. I just collected all the data I needed then I displayed it on a table. After displaying my data I just wrote a conclusion on what I found. I am proud of this assignment because i found it interesting and I got a good mark on it

Fact Checking A New York Times Article

The topic for this assignment was Lacrosse, which is one of my passions. I browsed several articles about lacrosse and came across one that was interesting to me. The article was called A Harlem Team Is Changing The Face Of Lacrosse. The source was The New York Times. The article was describing how lacrosse, in the state of New York, was changing from a sport which was mainly for the elite, white, male to be a more diverse, inclusive sport. The article was about a club that was located in Harlem. This lacrosse club supported youth by accepting all interested athletes without requiring money and/or try outs. The criteria to play for this team was to stay in school and do well.

After reading the article, I did several fact checks and determined that this article was true. The following information helped me make my decision that this article was legitimate.

Fact Checks

Wikipedia states that The New York Times is a commonly known newspaper which is read worldwide and was established in 1851.

I was able to find a second article which proved consensus. The article titled Heard From Harlem Lacrosse: ‘We Choose Life’ was found on insidelacrosse.com. This article talked about lacrosse in Harlem and the shift from it being a sport mostly for white students to starting to be inclusive of Black people.

I was able to do a reverse image search on tineye.com and found that the image on New York Times was the original photo making it legitimate.

After using these fact checking strategies I was able to determine that the article was from a reliable source.

The project I am most proud of in quarter 2

The project I am most proud of in quarter two is my electronics project. The name of my project was a light sensitive sound generator. I am very happy that i chose this project because it turned out to be pretty cool. I came to many challenges when making this project but I eventually got it done. Basically what my project does is it makes different sounds according to how much light is being taken in. The part that can make this possible is called a photocell. This project and course in general taught me a lot about electronics and perseverance.

Information Fluency

Lacrosse is a great sport that has been going on for many century’s. Back when it originated lacrosse sticks were made out of Hickory wood, nylon, or leather. more than three feet long and Weighing in at a couple pounds they were a lot different from the lacrosse sticks you will be seeing used in present day. Even Though these lacrosse sticks were not ideal, the First Nations people put lots of time and effort into them. It took about a year just to make one lacrosse stick. First they would chop hickory wood into a lacrosse stick shape then they would Let the wood season outside for eight months so it can turn in to the proper material for the lacrosse stick. then after it has been seasoned they would bend and steam the wood to make the curved head at the top of the lacrosse stick. Most lacrosse sticks now consist of titanium, nylon, and plastic. These materials make lacrosse sticks very light and maneuverable. The modern lacrosse sticks are way more efficient than the original ones. Modern Lacrosse sticks don’t take nearly as long as the old ones. I think the reason people started to change the style of the lacrosse stick is because It is way faster to make and that the modern ones are way more useful in the game of lacrosse.
