Week 10 Final Food Blog

For this assignment, i decided to make something that i really liked whenever one of my friends made for me or my family; Banana bread. Its probably one of my favorite foods, probably because to me it tastes really good with Chocolate chips and i have a big sweet tooth. I chose to prepare this dish because i really like banana bread and it would be fun to make something with my mom, who helped me during it. Some of the ingredients i had to get from my grandmother since we didn’t have them where i was, like the Bananas and the chocolate chips i wanted to add. We also didn’t have enough sugar for one of the batches, so we had to use less for the one in the more solid tin.

As you can see, I took this picture as i was mixing all the ingredients together. This recipe was given to my family by my Grandma on my moms side who bakes, and there are a bunch of different recipes inside of the recipe book. I never made this banana bread before with this recipe before, so i had my mom to help me make it. We each made our separate batches, and i watched my mom do the step first before i did it so i knew what to do based off of what she was doing.

Me and my mom both made separate batches, like i had said before. I added more chocolate chips to mine, And both of the eggs we put in ours were different colors. My batch that i made is in the clear container and the one my mom made was in the solid container

The banana bread turned out really well, and the batch that i had made was basically gone by the time i went to get my other piece. I also had given a piece of the banana bread to my Grandma, and she said it tasted really good. Since the banana bread in the solid tin had less sugar in it, we added less chocolate chips into that one so if anyone wanted anything less sweet they could eat that one.

The recipe for the banana bread called for:

1/2 cup of Butter or margarine

1 cup of Sugar

2 Eggs

1 cup of mashed very ripe bananas (3 medium)

1 3/4 cups of all purpose flour

1 tsp of Baking Soda

1/2 tsp of baking power

1/2 tsp of salt

And 1 cup of chopped walnuts, but instead of this i decided to put 3/4 cups of chocolate chips. you can make the batch with or without them.

Week 7 Food blog

I decided to make a coffee cake. I decided to make this because last time when i brought back coffee cake, my family really enjoyed it. The coffee cake turned out really well, except the topping had a bit too much cinnamon but it wasn’t that noticeable. I liked the coffee cake, it turned out better then i thought it would since we doubled the recipe and put it in the same pan. The reason we doubled the recipe was because we had nothing else to do with the other half of the egg, and we would eat more anyways. We had to make some changes to the recipe, like adding more cinnamon, and less brown sugar. For the cinnamon we didn’t have the right measurement, and for brown sugar we were low on it, since i had to get some from my grandmother. It was somewhat a new recipe, since i haven’t used it since we baked it in class. There were some “Mistakes” we had made that we recovered from, like putting all the batter in one pan so we had to double the time, all together having to put it in for 40 minutes. We were also missing some equipment like a pastry cutter, so instead we used a fork and we didn’t have a sifter so we hoped for the best. I took pictures of before the coffee cake was baked and after. The coffee cake turned out better then i thought it would, since it looked off colour then when we made it, but it was fine afterwards.

Food Photography

Photo 1: Utensils / props. What i like about the photo is the lighting and the filter i used was “Dramatic”. The thoughts i had while taking the photo was mainly try to make the lighting good and to find a good filter and to make sure there was nothing else in the photo that the camera would focus on.

Photo 2: In this picture i took a picture of salt. What i like about the photo is the angle. The filter i used was “Dramatic Warm”. I was trying to capture the image in front and make sure the rest looked blurry, And instead of doing foreground this time i used background, especially for the rest of the pictures. The thoughts i had was to try and get a good angle and make sure the picture wasn’t blurry and that the background wasn’t too distracting.

Photo 3: In this picture i took a picture of bananas. What i like about this photo is the contrast and the filter i used it called “Dramatic Cool”. On this photo i decided to mess around with the contrast, sharpness, and brightness, and before i didn’t even know you could do that, and to me it made the picture look better. My focus was to make sure the background was more blurry and the main focus stood out more.

Photo 4: This photo was a picture of flour in a measuring cup when i decided to make a brownie in a cup. The main focus of this photo was the lighting and angle, and to make sure it wasn’t focused on the background. The filter i used in this picture was “Vivid warm”.

Microbit Project Part 2

After me and my partner met up and talked, we decided to make the watch show a more encouraging message once you’ve done 500 steps, and another one at 1000 steps and another at 2000. It will also show a happy face once the encouraging message is done, and it will vibrate once you have reached 500, 1000, or 2000 steps so you actually notice it once you reach the goal. We also decided to make the elastic band more secure so it doesn’t fall off when your running, jogging or walking.

Microbit Project Part1

Me and my partner had the idea of finding out a way to find out how many steps we take per day without spending loads of money on an overpriced watch. We thought of this idea while looking for ideas to do, then we were messing around with the micro bit function and realized we could find a way for it to count steps for us for free since we didn’t want to have to spend money on it. We chose to use this idea since it seemed like the most creative idea to be cheap and be able to know how much we were exercising by seeing how many steps we were taking.
