Quarter 3: Proud Assignment

In quarter 3, I had Social Studies 9 as one of my two courses. The assignment I am the proudest of is the paragraphs I wrote about the 3 conferences. In our assignment we had to write a diary entry in the perspective of John A. Macdonald, for the day of each of the 3 conferences (Charlottetown, Quebec, and London). I’m proud of this assignment not only because I got 15/15 on it, but also because I learned a lot about John A. Macdonald and the 3 conferences.

Here are my paragraphs:

Break the Fake – Translucent Butterfly

I have an interest, some might even say a passion for butterflies and I came across this photo on Instagram of a translucent butterfly. At first glance it looks real, but it looks skeptical and you can’t trust everything on the internet so, I’m going to see if this is a real photo of a butterfly.

Here are the steps I took to find out if this photo is real.

Step 1.   I went to the source of where I found the image on soul_of_butterflies Instagram profile, I noticed their account didn’t have a blue checkmark.

Step 2.  I searched on Google for other photos of the translucent butterfly and I found the same photo.

Step 3. I then went to Snopes.com to see if the photo was real. I was able to find out that the photo was a digital creation with soap bubbles for wings.

Step 4. Finally I went to double-check other sources, on reddit.com I found the butterfly photo with comments saying it was photoshopped, in conclusion the photo of the translucent butterfly is fake.

Quarter 2: Proud Assignment

In quarter 2, I had English 9 as one of my two courses. The assignment I am the proudest of is my Core Competencies English 9 Presentation Final. In our assignment we had to show and explain how we have grown in the quarter using the Core Competencies. I prepared and presented a power point, and I then shared it with my class. I’m proud of this project because I got to reflect on my assignments and work from the beginning quarter 2 and I put a lot of effort into the design on my power point.

Here is my Power Point:

My Passion

One of the many passions I have is camping. Camping is one of the most popular outdoor vacation activities in the United States. Most campgrounds open in mid-May and depending on the campgroundthe number of campsites ranges from only a few dozen to more than three hundred. Often campgrounds provide experiences, such as island camping, tent and trailer camping, boat launches, hiking trails, beaches, and day-use areas with picnic tables and grills. According to the U.S. Travel Association, one third of U.S. adults say they have gone on a camping vacation in the past five years and only six percent of people who have gone camping said it was not for them. Camping has made a huge impact on my life; since my very first camping trip till now. The experience of camping has given me lots of unforgettable memories, things to look forward to and overall putting my family and I in a good mood. My parents took me camping for the very first time within the first year I was I born. Every summer my parents take the time off from work and hit the road. I have been to a lot of campgrounds and I’ve camped at so many places like Kelowna, Osoyoos, and Penticton. Camping is more than just a vacation; it is my family’s lifelong tradition.

Guidelines for commenting on my blog

Thank you for visiting my blog. I would appreciate it if you are thoughtful and considerate when commenting on my work. I will outline some guidelines that can help you with commenting.

  • Comments could be at least 2-5 sentences, not less.
    • I won’t mind it if there are a couple comments that are one sentence, but if there are comments that are 2-5 sentences I would very much appreciate it.
  • Use comments to show what you think is important, interesting, controversial, thoughtful.
    • I am open to any feedback, so that I can improve and share better work with my readers.
  • Use good grammar and spelling. Mistakes cause readers to focus on how you write, not your ideas.
    • I would appreciate if you double checked your grammar and spelling when commenting on my work.
  • Treat people the way you want to be treated.
    •  If you can’t show my blog the same respect as someone else’s blog then maybe my blog isn’t right for you.

Sample: My blog post on my favorite songs

“Hey Olivia, thank you for sharing these songs. You and I like a lot of the same songs. You have great taste in music! Would you be able to share more of your favourite songs in your next post?”
