My Employability Skills-A Reflection

1. Review the Employability Skills listed, describe the skills you currently have and how you used them in the activities.

a)Teamwork & Working in Diverse Environments: In the advisory class, my classmates and I had to partake in an activity called “The Human Knot”. In such activity, each person needed to hold hands with someone in their small group who isn’t beside them which later creates a knot. The objective of the activity was to undo the knot by shifting our bodies and using our critical thinking together which demonstrates teamwork. On another note, this activity is a good example of Working in Diverse Environments since I had to complete this activity with unique individuals that I didn’t know well.

c)Interpersonal Communication: In the same activity, “The Human Knot”, I have made a deeper connection with those who I participated with. In order for our group to be able to succeed, we communicated amongst each other which has brought up other topics and that has brought us closer. That demonstrates interpersonal communication.

e) Problem Solving & Critical Thinking: In the other activity, each person took turns stating their name and their favourite activity which everyone else who went after had to memorize. With those steps, we needed to throw a piece of yarn too. However, because a big group participated in this activity, there were times when it was hard to remember which is why many people helped out with the answers. That demonstrates Problem Solving.

f) Time management: In “The Human Knot” activity, each small group was competing against each other for who would be able to undo the knot first as the time was limited. This demonstrates time management, as my group and I distributed a specific amount of time towards critical thinking and then solving the problem which succeeded in us solving the activity.

g) Enthusiasm & Attitude: I myself was very positive towards the environment during “The Human Knot” activity. Of course, the others and I in the group have encouraged and supported each other and each idea which demonstrates enthusiasm ad attitude.

h) Ability to Accept and Integrate Criticism & Feedback: Throughout “The Human Knot” activity, I have demonstrated the ability to accept and integrate criticism & feedback by listening to others while accepting and trying out other people’s suggestions.

2. Discuss the skills that you would like to work on and what you can do to improve or practice them so that you are employable in the future.

c) Interpersonal Communication: I can still improve on interpersonal communication since there are times when I have trouble connecting. However, to improve this skill, I can practice getting out of my comfort zone while being more socially open during activities and times of socialization.

i) Flexibility & Adaptability: Flexibility & Adaptability is an area where I need to improve because there are moments I find myself not feeling comfortable in a group that mostly leads to miscommunication. To improve this skill, I can also expand my bubble and practice getting out of my comfort zone too, while sharing and connecting more in different settings.

e) Problem Solving & Critical Thinking: I can still improve my problem-solving skills as well as my critical thinking skills by exercising my brain and obtaining more wisdom to apply to my thoughts, answers and actions.
