The thing I am most proud of this year is the in-class essay I wrote about Indigenous art. In social studies, our first unit was about First Nations. I learned a lot about their intricate culture and the horrible ways they continue to be treated. I was emotionally impacted by what I learned, which made me want to do my best on our final assignment for that unit. Art is something I hold very close to my heart, since it is the way I express myself. I found the art of Indigenous people that we learned about to be so powerful and beautiful. The way that they communicate their stories and history through art is done in such a seamless way that you can almost feel the energy of the art. I expressed that in my essay so that anyone who read it could look into Indigenous art and see what I see in the paintings and sculptures. I am proud of my essay because I got to read it in front of my class and share my opinions on something that matters a lot to me. Overall, I’m so grateful to have learned about this part of history and the magnificent art that I discovered.
