This project affected my growth and communications skills because it was slightly difficult to talk to my group, therefore I had to be very straight forward and persuasive. I think when you are sharing ideas to people, you need to be very honest and take pride in your idea.

I’ve learnt that you need to share and communicate your ideas persuasively and express yourself in a way you think people will understand. I can further develop my skills in communication within my other group projects to come.

I think I’ve greatly improved in thinking competencies because I’ve got a better understanding of how to brainstorm ideas to benefit or save electricity and a better understanding of how to think and build on my thoughts.

I think I can further develop my understanding of my thinking process and competencies when I’m working on projects or trying to find an idea that helps something. For example, I’ve improved my critical thinking and creative thinking, so now I can use some of my new skills in further projects or studies.

Because I’ve leant how to socialize and plan a project with other group members which will benefit me in the future if I’m ever doing another project involving planning or coordinating in a group.

In further projects and learning, I think I will continue to develop my skills in school projects because I will be working with other students. I might have to work with a group on an online project so I can get better at talking with others, sharing ideas with others and understanding from other points of view and using that input to further develop my own ideas.

Day 1)

My group members and I thought about ideas that could save energy. We went through the process of cancelling out anything that wouldn’t save energy or help the planet in any way. As we continued to think about ideas, we collaborated and shared plans together and brainstormed possible energy saving systems.

Day 2)

We continued to think, and research about the topic. It was slightly hard to have an idea that wasn’t already being used in the class, so we had to think outside the box. We started thinking about lighting, and how a lot of time we waste electrical energy by leaving our lights on. So, after we talked a bit regarding this idea and how it could be useful, we decided to start thinking about how the system would work.

Day 3)

We started figuring out how this would work and determined that it would work. We had to think about possible problems and what would be the obstacles in creating this project. At this point, our goal was to be able to have a sensor that went off if light was left on for more than 10 minutes. It seemed easy enough, but we still had lots of work to do.

Day 4)

We started using the codes and the functions to make our project. Using forever (Light sensor to analog read pin 01) and making up stuff that would work.

Day 5)

We thought about alternatives and ways we thought we might be able to improve on the project.

Day 6

We were almost at finishing product, but we worked to find some other pieces of the project that would improve it.

Day 7

We were all finished and had a micro-bit that told us when the light was for more than 10 minutes and vibrated to notify us.

My group is trying to solve the problem of keeping our lights on too long, and wasting electricity. My group is using a Micro-Bit algorithm to signal (Will give a vibration) when light has been on over 10 minutes, there is a light sensor to sense whether light has been on more than 10 minutes that signals the vibration.

I picked this idea because it’s creative and it makes sense. it is extremely wasteful to leave lights on, and I believe that this will help quite a bit.
