macaroni and cheese

recipe: macaroni and cheese

  • 30 mL butter
  • 30 mL flour
  • 250 mL milk
  • 250 mL macaroni
  • breadcrumbs
  • 150 g cheddar cheese (grated)
  • double everything for a larger serving

how to make it:

  1. melt the butter in a saucepan over low heat.
  2. add the flour, and stir it with a wooden spoon or spatula for around three minutes, while that is being stirred, heat your milk in the microwave for about two minutes.
  3. add the hot milk gradually to the roux, and stir that. turn up the heat and cook, stirring, until the sauce is just at the boiling point.
  4. mix 3/4 of the grated cheese into the simmering sauce. as soon as it melts, combine it with the drained macaroni, and pout into a baking dish.
  5. sprinkle the top with the remaining cheese and breadcrumbs.
  6. bake for 20 minutes.

 

i had a lot of fun making this macaroni and cheese which is actually one of your recipes from Tatiana’s sister got from one of your foods class! i got to make this recipe with one of my best friends so it ended up being a lot of fun and really good. i haven’t had the best past of making macaroni and cheese before. i tried making kraft dinner once, the ones you put in the microwave and lets just say it did not go well at all. My parents tell me i almost burned the house down! not one of my finest moments.

we didn’t add all of the toppings or add ons into our macaroni and cheese because we personally liked it without. Our macaroni and cheese was really creamy but then also had breadcrumbs which added a good texture between the two. i have never made macaroni and cheese from almost complete scratch. it wasn’t hard but it took some patience which i don’t really have… once we were done we put it in the oven for 20 minuted once the cheddar cheese and breadcrumbs were on and it tasted delicous!
