Amanda’s Blog

Hi! My name is Amanda and I’m a grade 9 student this year at Dr. Charles Best Secondary. I have come from Maillard Middle, and before that, Rochester Elementary. I love spending time with my family and friends, playing the piano and alto sax, and certainly playing badminton. I have been playing the piano since I was in grade 1, and the alto sax in band since I was in grade 6. Badminton has been such a big part of my life as well, as I spend most of my time (apart from being at school) on the badminton court. I train 4 times a week, and each training session is 3 hours long. It’s a huge commitment, but I have tons of support from my family and a strong passion for the sport that keeps me going. I’ve been waiting all summer to start a fresh year at my new school, so let’s dive right in!

I chose this quote, as I can very much relate to it. Badminton is a sport that requires a lot of focus, and I have experienced what this quote says myself. When I’m very focused in a game of badminton, it’s like the rest of the world melts away. You don’t feel the pain you were complaining about earlier, you don’t care that everyone’s watching, you don’t realize who’s even there, except for the person across from you.

This video was one of the first videos I watched from the channel “The King of Random”, when I was around 8 years old. I found all of the videos very interesting, and I learned many new things from watching them. This video was one of my favourites, because I thought that it was so cool that Grant was able to make a bar of soap using only bacon and drain cleaner. Grant Thompson quickly became one of my favourite YouTubers, and I was very upset when I found out that he passed away a little more than a month ago 🙁 . Just watching this video alone brings back so many memories from my childhood!

A Picture That Is Meaningful to Me:

This is an photo of Ngapali Beach in Myanmar. I chose this photo because it brings back so many memories of my childhood. I visited Myanmar with my family when I was just 7 years old, and it was the experience of a lifetime. My absolute favourite part of our entire vacation was visiting Ngapali Beach. It was the most beautiful place I have ever visited in my entire life- the gentle waves of the ocean, the soft sand under my feet, the gorgeous seashells I collected, and the beautiful weather. Just looking back at this one photo brings back so many amazing memories that I know I’ll keep for the rest of my life.

My favourite website is YouTube, because it is a great place to find videos of all sorts. You can find educational and/or instructional videos, entertaining videos, news videos, etc. It is a great place to kill time, as well as learn new things.
